Carefree Diabetes Support. Anywhere You Are.
In the 10-week "Theory of Interaction Design" course, our team of 4 service design students completed this socially impactful project.
Lighthouse consists of a private injection space with a multifunctional vending machine and a Diabetes-Friendly Map APP Plugin, offering travel support for diabetic seniors.
The Challenge
Health issues are the primary factors affecting the travel satisfaction of seniors, and diabetic seniors face more complex health issues, such as diet, injections, and mental well-being, while society and existing designs often pay little attention to and meet their needs.
Research
Our team spent 3 weeks conducting research, gathering data and insights on the behaviors and psychological aspects of the diabetic population through academic papers, news sources, online ethnography, and interviews.
Ideation
Our team spent 2 weeks defining users through personas, identifying pain points and opportunities through existing user journeys, discovering opportunities through market competitor research, and finally delving deeply into the project's direction.
Design & Iteration
Our team spent 2 weeks doing the Low-Fi prototype and conducting the usability test, We invited 6 diabetes seniors and caregivers aged between 20 and 70 and finally received over 30 pieces of valuable feedback on user flow, interface design, and visual style.
Next Step
Our mission is to support those facing diabetes challenges, raise awareness, and foster a more inclusive society. We aim to expand our services to the entire diabetes community. Government and health organizations' support is vital for our operations. We envision Lighthouse becoming integral to societal infrastructure and working on a sustainable business model with partners.
SAY SOMETHING
I'm very proud of this project. Firstly, conducting interviews and tests with users made me realize the social value of Lighthouse, and it fills me with the hope of "human design". Secondly, as a project manager, organizing the project, assigning tasks, and supervising and inspecting each step have allowed me to learn quickly. To ensure smoother logic, I continuously adjust the structure and learn new infographics.
The clear division of labor within the team and everyone's positive contributions have made me love the atmosphere of teamwork even more. I also hope to have the opportunity to discuss the commercialization of the project one day, hoping to truly help people with diabetes.
