Use Chinese typeface design as an expression of critical thinking
Here's the typeface design part of my graduation design, the project is mainly discusses the Internet language expression habits in the era of entertainment. and think of this kind of habit might affect Chinese language used in the future, so I invented a new kind of Internet expression tools——An keyboard that helps people express their emotions. Of course, this is an exaggerated and playful expression, and imagine what a cultural setback it would be if everyone just used ha-ha-ha to express ideas.
Background
It is not difficult to find that in today's Internet context, people care more about what they express, rather than whether others understand or whether the expression is meaningful to others. The Internet is an outlet for personal emotions. At the same time, the characteristics of instant and rapid expression on the Internet make people more willing to use convenient interjections and onomatopoeia with emotional tension to summarize emotions and opinions that should be described in formal words.
What is the problem with this trend of expression? First of all, we know that the Internet occupies a large part of our life, and the habit of online expression will be transferred to offline or even overturn the written expression tradition. Will there be no longer long sentences, no rhetorical devices, no quotes from the classics? Will our expressions converge and therefore lack the ability to think independently?
Concept
I put the main body of my design on the keyboard, because the keyboard is gradually replacing pen and paper as the new tool of daily expression. I chose 12 common sighs and onomatopoeia instead of 26 letter buttons to make it easier for people to express their emotions (convenience, in essence, leads to convergence and limits diversity). At the same time, I exaggerate these fonts and refer to their network usage scenes, words and sounds, and semantics in terms of font morphology and dynamic changes.
SAY SOMETHING
In the other version I used a lot of bright colors and wanted to have a very bold, attractive style. But the color has a very strong meaning and I thought it would weaken the shape of the font here, so I made the black and white version later. In my opinion, the most important thing for graduation design is the depth of its thinking, but my work did not land well in the end. In retrospect, the most complete and effective part is the graphic and motion typeface design, so I will show it.
