ROLE : UX | VISUAL DESIGNER

Gogoal is an APP that encourages female and male sports fans to follow female athletes and women's sports events by providing fun sports popularization and immersive online watching experiences.

The Chinese women's football team won the Asian Cup on February 6, 2022, and the Chinese Football Association (CFA) announced a 10 million CNY bonus for winning the championship. The Chinese men's football team finished the Asian top 12 of the World preliminary finals in March with a dismal record of 10 games and one win, and the Football Association offered the men's football team a bonus of 6 million CNY if they won a single game in the top 12.

The public's support for women's football has grown on the Internet, and they are disappointed that men's football, despite being paid so well, cannot produce good results. The disparity in ability and pay reflects the stereotype that men are more involved in sports than women, particularly in highly commercialized sports like soccer.

Problem Statement

In the past five years, the influence of female athletes has been increasing. The performance and participation of female athletes in international competitions are even higher than that of male athletes. However, the commercial sponsorship and public attention of female sports events still lag behind that of male sports events.

I interviewed seven users to gain a better understanding of what motivates different types of sports fans to focus on women's events and athletes. Based on the interview and research, I discovered some findings and then define our design challenge.

Market Analysis

After identifying design opportunities, I researched existing sports event products on the market from the perspectives of interaction and user groups in order to understand their pros and cons in order to help me determine the feature points that should be highlighted in the final product.

Ideation

Based on the four opportunities and market analysis, I brainstormed some function solutions for each and found that some of them could be grouped into one product or app. The final solution is an immersive interactive sport game-watching experience APP that provides gamified sports and female athletes knowledge (accessible via mobile terminals, wearables, and computers).

Prototype

Gogoal is divided into 4 sections that correspond to users' needs to watch women's games, understand sports knowledge, understand women athletes, and understand users' personal achievements.

The high-fidelity prototype shows a flowchart and user interface for the highlights feature.

SAY SOMETHING

Gogoal was my first end-to-end independent UX project, and it was a great opportunity for me to comprehensively practice my research and interface design skills.

Throughout the process, I enhance my UI design skills by learning about various mobile design guidelines as well as trending mobile UI patterns.I used to be a member of the university basketball team. This project's background is related to my personal experience, and this topic is a problem that I believe is important to solve. However, in the evaluation of the design direction, I always felt that the real pain points had not been discovered, and after many reversals, I finally found the most potential users and solutions.

Finally, this project took four months to complete, but I am pleased that the final product can be recognized by my female friends who are new to sports. I tested the product in football, but I believe it can be applied to any female sports in the future.
